Canada’s Giant Leap for AI in Space

The Persistence Mission is Canada’s next step in the global effort to bring trustworthy AI & Autonomy to space. Creating resilient, rapid response capabilities by intelligently downlinking actionable insights to humans on Earth, Persistence will pioneer AI-enabled operational concepts to save space system operators time and money. With the support of the Canadian Space Agency, Mission Control has partnered with Spire Global to build a Spacecraft that will launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in 2025. Post-launch, Mission Control will demonstrate the power of space-based AI ushering in the next phase of human space exploration and a better understanding of the Earth.
Purpose
Mission Control will demonstrate a Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) pipeline and corresponding software technology stack for deployment, characterization, and improvement of AI models in a production / operational environment for Edge devices in space.

Updates to Low Earth Orbit
Providing robust, reliable, and trustworthy machine learning payload updates to low earth orbit.

Sustained Operations
Demonstrating sustained machine payload operations in space and on the ground for long duration space missions.

Real Time Insights
Processing earth observation data onboard with machine learning to achieve near-real time insights while optimizing bandwidth and data.
